My divorced w/ children girlfriend has some issues with her newer model Land Rover mostly with squeaky brakes with a bit of shimmy when stopping.. When she called the mechanic, he diagnosed it as an issue with brake replacement an/or/both the rotors as well.
He quoted her a cost of 1,000 to 1,200 to fix it. This seems like more than highway robbery, since new brakes and turning rotors together would cost around $ 200.00 for a standard car.
His claim is the Land Rovers is a very discriminative SUV. It requires factory parts or it will cause all types of other issues such as warning check engine lights going off and also providing poor road performance. Even if this is true, the price still seems really high. I strongly think that he is taking advantage of her because of her single status.
I would be very APPRECIATIVE to hear from anyone who has knowledge on Rover Repair costs. I will forward your advice on to her.

Factory Land Rover parts are sky high because they are shipped from England and it seems most dealers don’t want to stock hardly anything so they have to overnight just about everything—very poor parts chain. I priced plugs and wires for one at 350.00–ridiculous. Dealer people and other techs seem to think if you’ve got one of them, you must have a mattress full of money or something. I would call around to parts stores and get price quotes on pads and rotors and then shop some other garages to quote the parts and labor to see how much they charge and whether they use aftermarket or factory parts. Good thing to bear in mind when car shopping is how much are repair costs for normal wear items between brands and figure that into your cost of ownership—most people don’t bother and then are shocked by some repairs when it’s too late.
